Jobs and Internships at South Philly Review

South Philly Editorial Internship Program

Students and those looking for post-school real-world journalism experience are welcome to check out the Review's Internship Program.

A weekly newspaper with a circulation of 62,000, the South Philly Review serves readers door-to-door and publishes Thursdays. With its opinion, news, lifestyles and sports sections, interns can see the creation of a newspaper from the ground up.

Internships are non-paying, though students can receive credit, but offer the chance to learn the many facets of journalism, including, but not limited to, fact-checking, creative writing, interviewing, news judgment, article selection, the importance of accuracy and more. All interns have their own workstation with Internet access. The workweek can be designed around other jobs, obligations, school or commitments.

Send a resume and published clips (if you have them) or writing samples to:

Please include a cover letter telling us about yourself and if you have interest in any one area - sports, features, hard news - so we can tailor your internship to your interests. Tell us your availability, school schedule or both, as well as a projected start date and how long you think you will be taking the internship.

Photography Internship Program

If searching for an internship that offers great photo play, creative freedom and a dedicated, supportive editorial staff, contact the South Philly Review and Southwest Philly Review. Internships are open to college-level students working with instructors in for-credit photography classes.

Gain hands-on experience working with a staff photographer and staff writers; accompanying the staff photographer on assignments; arranging photo assignments and concepts with staff members; delivering photos on deadline; and, if meeting certain benchmarks, going out on assignment for the newspaper. If interested, students will have access to the Art Director to learn about the design phase of the newspaper.

The South Philly Review is a weekly community newspaper that serves 60,000 homes door-to-door and covers news, features, sports with sections such as opinion and lifestyles. If your photos demonstrate vision and an ability to capture telling moments, then you might be a good match.

Applicants must have a working knowledge of Photoshop, access to transportation and a camera, digital being the preferred format. Students must be available 10 to 15 hours a week, preferably a Monday or Tuesday to get the maximum benefit of the program.

There is no compensation for internships, but interns will receive bylines on certain photos, including the restaurant review and Word on the Street.

Interested applicants should submit a portfolio, resume with references and a cover letter to:
